Huntsville TX Real Estate: What is the difference between a Realtor and a Real Estate Agent?
What is the difference between a Realtor and a Real Estate Agent? Hmmm...glad you asked.
Let's start with what Realtors and Real Estate Agents have in common. Both are licensed to sell Real Estate. What is the difference.
This is HUGE:
Realtors are bound by a code of ethics, whereas Real Estate Agents are not. Why is this important to the consumer? You can find out all the details by reading the code of ethics available at www.Realtor.org , but here's the gist: Realtors are held accountable by the NAR-National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics. The National Association of Realtors came into existence for the purpose of protecting the consumer. This organization brought accountability to the "wild, wild west" of real estate transactions that was the climate prior to 1908 and the establishment of the Code of Ethics in 1913.
In any Real Estate transaction, building a relationship with a professional you trust is key. The title of Realtor allows the consumer to clearly see if that professional has put herself/himself in a position to be accountable to the Realtor Code of Ethics.
