Healthy Floors and Flooring Choices For Your TX Home for Sale
Healthy floors are an option for all of us. We walk on them every day, but how often do we actually give our floors consideration? Most of us have probably spent our entire lives not even thinking about carpet for example. We choose carpet based on color, style, and even price, not typically what the carpet is made from. The truth is that much of the carpeting that has traditionally covered our floors contains formaldehyde.
We often don't think about what we are surrounded by every day? What we walk on, sit on, drink out of are all made up of some type of material. These items could be toxic over a long period of time and prolonged exposure? Flooring made up of formaldehyde just sounds awful, doesn’t it? Knowing that there are harmless, earth-friendly alternatives for flooring may offer peace of mind and a healthier life in the long run.
Flooring options have probably never been as diverse as today. Allergy sufferers may prefer a hard surface floor like travertine, ceramic or porcelain tile, stained concrete or wood or laminate, cork and countless others not listed here. With carpet fibers, there will always exists a way for pet dander and other allergens to get trapped inside even with frequent vacuuming and cleaning.
Flooring is a personal preference. It has been my experience that many buyers prefer carpet in the bedrooms and hard surfaces elsewhere. If you currently have carpeting in "wet areas" like the bathroom or kitchen, but especially around the commode, you may want to consider an update which would remove the carpet and replace it with a hard surface. This would be particularly helpful if you are considering selling your home. The main reason is the ability to clean and disinfect a hard surface vs carpet in these areas.
I have also found that some buyers are not particularly fond of parquet wood flooring. Personally, I LOVE it! I have it in my home. That's why I say flooring options are indeed personal.
Here is another thought:
We no longer use lead in the paints that cover our walls because we know that lead in poisonous to our health. Likewise we have rid our homes of asbestos because it has led to diseases like lung cancer and asthma. Let’s face the fact that formaldehyde is not good for us either. Luckily we now have countless natural options and can make choices that can help our health and our homes at the same time.
